Wheat production in Queensland
Wheat is the major winter crop grown in Southern and Central Queensland, where approximately 800,000 ha is sown annually. State production averages approximately 1 million t. The crop is well suited to a wide range of soils, particularly deep clay soils with high moisture-holding capacity. These regions are the nation's main areas for the production of Australian prime hard (APH) quality wheat.
