Free research databases

  • Agricola - Find citations of journal articles, book chapters, short reports, and reprints covering U.S. agricultural and life sciences information. Produced by the US Department of Agriculture.
  • AGRIS - Find citations of papers dealing with agricultural science and technology worldwide. Topics covered include forestry, animal husbandry, aquatic science and fisheries, and human nutrition. From FAO.
  • Google Scholar - a free search service for searching scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research.
  • Infomine - A Web resource featuring well organized access to important university level research and educational tools on the Internet.
  • OpenDOAR - an authoritative directory of academic open access repositories.
  • PubMed - Find citations of articles from medicine and the life sciences. Includes references to animal health papers. From the National Library of Medicine (US).
  • Scitopia - a gateway to research from leading science and technology societies. Searches more than three million documents, including peer-reviewed journal content and technical conference papers, spanning 150 years of science and technology

 

Access to a range of other online databases is available through the State Library of Queensland upon obtaining a free State Library eServices card.

  • Directory of Open Access Journals - over 2000 open access journals.

  • Gateway for Free eJournals - 700 Free E-journals covering Subjects like Business & Management, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Media and Communication, and Social Sciences.

  • Highwire Press - the largest archive of free full-text science on Earth.

  • findarticles.com  Provided by BNET - an organization that "provides working professionals with the tools, advice, and insight they need to succeed in today's workplace."



 

Books

  • DEEDI catalogue - note: members of the public can borrow only via interlibrary loan from their local or institutional library.
  • Trove - search other Australian library catalogues.
  • Core Historical Literature of Agriculture (CHLA) - a core electronic collection of agricultural texts from Cornell University, published between the early nineteenth century and the middle to late twentieth century. Includes fully digitised copies of 1849 books and 6 journals.
  • Google Books - Search the latest index of the world's books. Find millions of books you can preview or read for free.
  • The Hive And The Honeybee - The Phillips' Beekeeping Collection at Cornell's Albert R. Mann Library is one of the largest and most complete apiculture libraries in the world. The Hive and the Honey Bee consists of the full text of thirty rare books from the collection.
  • Science Books Online - Science Books Online lists free science e-books, textbooks, lecture notes, monographs, and other science related documents.

News

  • DEEDI news - news on the DEEDI web page.
  • DEEDI newsletters - various newsletters produced by DEEDI.
  • DEEDI email lists - email and discussion lists hosted by DEEDI.
  • ABC - The Australian Broadcasting Commission website, updated regularly.
  • The Courier Mail - the Courier Mail website, updated regularly throughout the day.
  • Australian newspapers online - from the National Library of Australia.
  • Google News - search for news from thousands of sources around the world. To see Australian stories only, do an Advanced search and add "Australia" to the location box. Register to be sent news stories containing your search words daily, weekly, or as they happen.
  • ScienceDaily: news and articles in science, health, environment and technology.
