The Queensland timber plantation strategy 2020 (QTPS) was formally released on 20 July 2010 and is the first of its kind for Queensland.

QTPS has been developed in consultation with a broad range of timber plantation sector stakeholders.

The recent sale of the right to manage the Queensland Government´s timber plantation estate to the private sector has opened the way for a more commercially focused policy approach to the timber plantation sector.

QTPS establishes a fundamental change in the role of government from direct ownership of timber plantations and participation in forest product markets, to one of leadership and strategic direction setting. Therefore the strategy clearly articulates the Queensland Government´s policy objective of providing an investor-ready environment to encourage and support new private investment in the timber plantation sector in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. It also outlines key strategies and actions that the Queensland Government is committed to delivering to drive sustainable timber plantation sector growth over the next decade.
