Small area landholders
As an owner of livestock on a small land parcel, you are required to register your place (property) with Biosecurity Queensland if you keep one or more head of horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, buffalo, deer, camelids (camels, llama, alpaca), or 100 or more poultry including caged birds.
A registered property will receive a unique property identification code (PIC). This code is necessary for maintaining property and livestock records as part of the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS).
If you are the owner of cattle, sheep, pigs or goats, you are required to observe NLIS requirements:
- Cattle moving from a property must be identified with an approved NLIS device before they leave the property, and their movements reported to the NLIS database. An NVD/waybill must also accompany the cattle when they are moved from a property.
- Sheep and goats moving from a property must be identified with an approved NLIS sheep tag before movement. Registered stud dairy goats that are tattooed are not required to be tagged unless moved to saleyards or abattoirs. An NVD/waybill must also accompany the animals when they are moved to another place.
- Pigs are to be identified with an approved tag or pig tattoo brand when moved to a different place, (including saleyards and abattoirs) unless ownership remains unchanged at the destination. A PigPass, waybill or equivalent document must accompany transported pigs.
