Summary
The report describes the various forms of organic matter in soils, how soils can act as a sink for carbon and how it can be measured, and the role organic matter plays in determining soil functions and properties.
Organic carbon and organic matter are the keys to healthy soils that can support productive and sustainable land uses - both in agricultural and natural ecosystems.
Greatest benefits can be gained from increasing the inputs of carbon and organic matter to soils by growing better crops and pastures more often.
