Mungbean production in Queensland
Key points:
- useful opportunity crop, usually spring planted
- relatively drought tolerant and quick maturing
- sprouting beans attract higher prices, but processing beans are becoming more popular as the quality needs are not as strict
- quality is vital - processors need unmixed varieties with a high germination percentage
- insect damage is one of the main reasons for downgrading mungbeans - heliothis a major threat.
