Mungbean production in Queensland

Key points:

useful opportunity crop, usually spring planted
relatively drought tolerant and quick maturing
sprouting beans attract higher prices, but processing beans are becoming more popular as the quality needs are not as strict
quality is vital - processors need unmixed varieties with a high germination percentage
insect damage is one of the main reasons for downgrading mungbeans - heliothis a major threat.
