Wheat production in Queensland
Wheat is the major winter crop grown in Southern and Central Queensland where about 800,000 ha is sown annually. State production averages approximately one million tonnes. The crop is well suited to a wide range of soils, particularly deep clay soils with high moisture-holding capacity. These regions are the nation's main areas for the production of Australian prime hard (APH) quality wheat.
