Outlook summary

Cover of the sorghum seasonal crop outlook.

At the end of February, soil-water conditions and the seasonal rainfall outlook indicate an above-average sorghum yield of 2.52 tons/ha (68th percentile) at a national level. There remains, however, some variation in the outlook among local regions. Most areas in Central Queensland and northern New South Wales show above-average crop yield expectation (falling in the top 20% of all years), while most southern Queensland areas show crop yield expectations similar to the long-term expectation (49th percentile). However, a wet finish to the summer cropping season might increase the risk of diseases and harvesting problems, especially for late sown crops.
