Organics

Driven by consumer demand, organic farming is fast-becoming a serious alternative to conventional farming systems. Organic farming is experiencing rapid growth of 10-30% a year, depending on the sector. With a farm-gate value of $90 million, exports of $40 million and a domestic retail market value of $250 million, the industry is a serious contender for market share. In Queensland, horticulture, including sugarcane, is the largest sector of the industry followed by meat and livestock, and grains and pulses.
