Food safety

Food safety policy is complex, with a range of international, national and state committees currently in place.

DPI&F plays a leading role in chemical residue issues, which can have an impact on food safety.

Both the DPI&F and Queensland Health have representation on the Food Regulation Standing Committee that supports and advises the Australian New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council, which is attended by the Ministers of Health and Primary Industries and Fisheries or their Parliamentary Secretaries.

The operational aspects of food safety is handled by SafeFood Qld through Food Safety Schemes for meat, dairy products and eggs or by Queensland Health who has overall responsibility, including food safety issues involving restaurants, food retailers, food labelling or food tampering issues.
