Pest mapping

Knowing the location of weeds and pest animals is integral to effective pest management, and maps are particularly valuable tools for recording pest information and planning and determining treatment methods.

The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) produces grid-based annual distribution maps for over 40 pest species, as well as detailed distribution maps to aid specific research or project work. It also produces predictive maps created from pest modelling programs that show where pests are likely to occur. This type of map can help in early detection programs and assist in resource planning and prevention activities.
