Moving horses
From Monday 30 June 2008 Queensland was declared free of equine influenza (EI). In most instances horses in Queensland may now move freely throughout the state without a waybill. However, waybills and travel permits are required for horses crossing a tick line.

Moving horses in Queensland
Under the Stock Act, when horses are moved in Queensland they may be required to be accompanied by a waybill.
As at 30 June 2008 all of Queensland was reclassified as an EI white zone. As Queensland is now one zone, horse movement requirements revert back to those that were in place prior to the EI response and eradication.
This means that a waybill is only required for the following movements:
- horses crossing the tick line
- horses moving interstate
- horses going to the RNA showgrounds
- horses changing ownership
- horses not returning home
- horse sales
- horses going to abattoirs.
Please be aware that horses cannot be moved where the owner of the horse (which includes the person in custody or control of the horse) believes or suspects that the horse is infected with EI.
As per the Stock Identification Regulation 2005, horse owners throughout Queensland are required to register the place where their horses are kept with DPI&F and obtain a property identification code (PIC).
If you have horses and have not registered the place where they are kept, you are required to do so.
Register your property online.
