Brands and earmarks prove ownership of livestock but are not compulsory, except when cattle and pigs are being sold.

Livestock entry requirements for Queensland
To protect Queensland´s livestock and livestock industries, there are controls on the introduction of stock from other states and territories. These controls are governed by the Stock Act 1915.

National Livestock Identification System (NLIS)
NLIS is the identification and traceability system for livestock. NLIS allows individual animals to be identified and tracked from their property of birth through to slaughter.

Contact your local stock inspector for information about travel permits, waybills, health certifications, brands and earmarks, NLIS-device application forms, vendor declarations and border crossing locations.
