Invasive ants

Ants are among the worst invasive species in the world - and the worst invasive ants are tramp ants. So called because of their association with people, tramp ants can arrive in Queensland by a number of means.

Tramp ants have the potential to impact on our outdoor lifestyle, unique environment and profitable agriculture. While they have much in common, tramp ant species differ from one another. Three tramp ant species are the subject of eradication efforts by Biosecurity Queensland.

Fire ants
These ants are dangerous and destructive and could cost Australia dearly if not contained

Electric ants
The very small electric ants are an environmental pest that can also infest homes

Yellow crazy ants
With the potential to form densely populated super-colonies, these ants have a track record of environmental devastation
