Peter Henneken

Retiring Director-General

Peter Henneken is retiring from the Queensland Public Service on 13 November 2009 following a 40 year career contributing to Queensland’s community.

Peter has been Acting Director-General of the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation since April 2009, commencing the difficult task of integrating nine former departments and parts of departments.

He was previously the Director-General of the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations for eight years. Its functions included industrial relations — both public and private — and employment initiatives, together with electrical and workplace health and safety issues.

He has a long interest in the labour market and its impact on the lives of working people, and has worked in all areas of labour market policy and regulation.

Peter was appointed as a member of the QSuper Board in December 2007. He is currently the Chair of the Building and Construction Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Board and the Contract Cleaning Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Board.
