Mr Michael Choi
Parliamentary Secretary for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and for Trade
Member for Capalaba
Michael Choi graduated from the University of Queensland in engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Queensland.
In 1988, Mr Choi became founder and CEO of a multi-disciplinary engineering and consultancy firm until his election to the Queensland Parliament in 2001.
Mr Choi was a Member of the Small Business Council of Queensland from 1996 – 1998, and then the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council from 1998 – 2001, and has served as Chair since 2001.
Mr Choi was elected as Member for Capalaba in 2001. He has previously served as Parliamentary Secretary in the portfolios of trade, transport, employment, industrial relations and multicultural affairs. He is currently the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and the Minister for Trade.
Mr Choi has extensive experience in trade and is an Honorary Ambassador for the City of Brisbane, fostering economic and cultural ties between Brisbane and Asia Pacific countries and is also an Honorary Citizen of the City of Shenzhen, China.
Community involvement includes serving as president of the Fortitude Valley Business Association from 1992 - 1996, overseeing the transformation of New Farm, Fortitude Valley and Teneriffe to the vibrant communities they are today.
Other community involvement includes service clubs, churches and not-for-profit organisations.
Mr Choi was selected as a torchbearer for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
