Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act
The Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 (AMCDA) was amended on 28 August 2024.
Purpose
The purpose of the AMCDA is to:
- provide for the identification of cats and dogs
- provide for the registration of dogs
- provide for the effective management of regulated dogs
- promote the responsible ownership of cats and dogs
- promote the responsible breeding of dogs
- prohibit the ownership of and particular dealings with dogs of particular breeds.
Key changes
Changes were made to the AMCDA in response to the rise in dog attacks on community members and animals in Queensland.
