Invasive plants and animals operations

Biosecurity Queensland’s invasive plants and animals operations prioritise:

  • the early stages of prevention
  • eradication through early intervention.

Prevention and early intervention are the most cost-effective strategies to reduce the risks and potentially adverse consequences arising from invasive species. We work with local governments to prevent incursions and eradicate new incursions.

Funding for the operational component of our Invasive Plants and Animals Program is partly supported by the Land Protection Fund.

Our operational highlights

At the end of each financial year, Biosecurity Queensland publishes, which documents our latest activities and achievements in preventing and managing incursions of invasive species. These can include:

  • preventing the entry, spread and establishment of new invasive species
  • responding to new incursions and eradicating them, where feasible
  • strengthening local government capacity and capability to regulate the management of invasive plants and animals.

Who it is for

This publication is targeted to local governments. However, it may also be of interest to:

  • state government agencies
  • fellow researchers
  • interested community groups and land managers.
