Our minister

As Minister for Primary Industries, Minister Perrett is passionate about backing Queensland farmers, fishers, foresters and being a strong voice for rural and regional Queenslanders in government.

Minister Perrett was elected as the Member for Gympie in January 2015, an electorate based around the City of Gympie that stretches from the Cooloola Coast towns of Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay in the east, Bauple in the north to the Mary Valley in the south.

Minister Perrett was appointed to the Shadow Ministry in November 2017, serving as Shadow Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Forestry until November 2020 when he became the Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

He was appointed Minister for Primary Industries following the election of the Crisafulli Government in October 2024.

Before entering State Parliament, Minister Perrett served as a long-term Councillor and Deputy Mayor.

He joined the Kilkivan Shire Council in 2003 and was appointed Deputy Mayor following his re-election in 2004.

After the formation of the Gympie Regional Council, he was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012.

Minister Perrett served as Deputy Mayor across both terms, including stints as Acting Mayor and overseeing Governance, Finance, and Economic Development.

Minister Perrett grew up in the Kingaroy area and moved to the Gympie Region in 1997.

A cattle grazier by background, his lifelong connection to the land underpins his deep commitment to Queensland’s primary industries.

Minister Perrett has been involved in community service since joining local organisations at the age of 19 and has been an active member of regional show and campdraft committees for more than 25 years.

A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Minister Perrett and his wife Michele have been married for more than 34 years and have two daughters and two grandchildren.
