The welfare of animals in pet shops and other animal trade settings must meet the minimum duty of care requirements under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.
The Queensland Code of Practice for Pet Shops (PDF, 803KB) provides recommendations for the care and management of cats, dogs and other animals sold through pet shops. Compliance with the code is not mandatory.
