The Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS) provides funding for stocking groups at over 60 impoundments in Queensland.
Impoundments are 'put, grow and take' fisheries where most stocked species will not reproduce. This means the impoundments need to be stocked regularly with fish. The impoundments are stocked with native fish specifically for recreational fishing. The scheme provides a sustainable fishing option that reduces the fishing pressure on wild fish stocks.
The money anglers pay for their Stocked Impoundment Permit goes towards maintaining and enhancing recreational fishing in stocked impoundments and management of the scheme.

How the funds were allocated
The following formula is applied when allocating SIPS grants. 40% of funds allocated by surface area capped at 4,000 hectares maximum with available fishing area and the remaining 60% of funds allocated by the SIPS permit holder participation rate at dams and weirs. There is a minimum $500 allocation and a maximum of 70% of total stocking allocation from SIPS. This formula is formalised in the Guideline on the administration of Queensland's Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme.
Allocation amounts were based on a total revenue of $1,354,335. A total of $1,068,812 (ex GST) was allocated for community engagement and stocking of impoundments (including disaster recovery stocking) in 2024/2025. This includes $1,036,000 (ex GST) allocated to impoundments for fish stocking and other approved activities.
Below is a list of the impoundment allocations and SIPS permit holder participation for 2024–2025. Total allocation reflects adjustments due to carryover caps.

Allocation amounts were based on a total revenue of $1,183,515. A total of $923,000 (ex GST) was allocated for community engagement and stocking of impoundments in 2022–2023. This includes $907,000 allocated to impoundments for fish stocking and other approved activities. FFSAQ was allocated $6,000 to run the FFSAQ education trailer. This reduction is due to the carryover amount from cancellation of events due to COVID–19.

Funding allocation
The working group looked at a number of allocation models for the 2021 grants. After discussion the majority of the working group supported applying a formula with 40% of funds allocated by surface area capped at 4,000 hectares maximum with available fishing area, and the remaining 60% of funds allocated by the SIPS permit holder participation rate at dams and weirs. It also continues the minimum $500 allocation and the maximum of 70% of total stocking allocation from SIPS. This formula has now been formalised in the administration guideline.
Allocation amounts were based on a total revenue of $1,168,156. A total of $892,000 (ex GST) was allocated for community engagement and stocking of impoundments in 2021–2022. Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Association of Queensland was allocated $20,000 to run the Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Workshop in partnership with Fisheries Queensland and Mackay Regional Council and $872,000 was allocated to impoundments for fish stocking and other approved activities.
Below is a list of the impoundment allocations and SIPS permit holder participation for 2020–2021. Total allocation reflects adjustments due to carryover caps.
For impoundments marked with an asterisk, an allocation was not paid to the stocking group/impoundment due to not meeting the grant agreement requirements, dam maintenance activities or holding excessive carryover.

How the funds were allocated
Allocation amounts were based on a total revenue of $1,067,676 (included total sales July 2017 to May 2018 and predicted sales for May and June 2018). $22,676 in revenue was deferred to the 2018-2019 financial year. A total of $783,750 (ex GST) was allocated for community engagement and impoundments in 2017-2018. FFSAQ was allocated $8,000 and Somerset and Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association Inc. was allocated $5,000 for community engagement. $770,750 was allocated to impoundments for fish stocking and other approved activities.
The allocation formula used for impoundments was 50% allocated by surface area capped at 4,000 ha and 50% allocated by the SIPS permit holder participation from the 2018 SIPS survey with minimum $500 allocations, maximum of 70% of total stocking allocation from SIPS and percentage of available fishing area.
