Forestry research facilities and capacity

We deliver forestry and wood research across specialised facilities and expert teams.

Queensland forestry research facilities

We conduct forest and wood research at government and partner sites across Queensland:

Ecosciences Precinct

The Ecosciences Precinct is a multi-agency, collaborative working environment that includes research and educational laboratories, insect houses, controlled environment rooms, greenhouses, offices, and workshops.

Salisbury Research Facility

The Salisbury Research Facility is a state-of-the-art facility with equipment for research to improve wood products, processing and protection systems at laboratory to semi-commercial scales.

Gympie

Gympie is home to glasshouses, nurseries, and propagation facilities supporting tree improvement research, and the base for our extensive forestry research database.

University of the Sunshine Coast (USC)

Through associate roles with the Forest Industries Research Centre (FIRC) at USC, we contribute expertise in forest genetics, forest health, and pest management.

Specialist research capacity

We bring deep expertise in:

  • forest genetics and tree improvement
  • modelling forest and carbon growth
  • biometrics, programming, and decision-support tools
  • forest entomology, pathology, and nutrition
  • chemical and forest ecology
  • forest health surveillance and biosecurity
  • engineered wood composites technology
  • wood-based product design
  • kiln drying and sawmilling technology
  • grading timber and advanced wood property testing
  • wood properties evaluation and NATA-accredited mechanical testing
