The Gatton AgTech Showcase 2025 brought together Australia’s leading growers, researchers, technology providers and agribusinesses for two dynamic days of innovation at the Gatton Smart Farm on 15–16 October 2025.
Overview
Building on the success of the inaugural Gatton AgTech Showcase in November 2023, which won the 2024 VISY Industry Impact Award at the Australian Horticulture Awards, the 2025 event further cemented its reputation as a premier platform for agricultural innovation.
Delivered by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Hort Innovation, in collaboration with AUSVEG, AusAgritech and Cussons Media, the event was designed to accelerate the adoption of emerging agriculture technologies.
It provided growers with hands-on access to practical, real-world solutions to improve productivity, sustainability and competitiveness across field production, protected cropping and supply chains.

There's a lot of positivity, in the paddock here at Gatton.

The partnerships and collaboration that you see here is going to be taken back to thousands of paddocks around Australia,

to reduce that reliance on labour but also bring down costs to make production cheaper.

The Gatton AgTech Showcase 2025 is the benchmark for AgTech events going forward. A DPI initiative, that we delivered in 2023.
0:20 / 20 seconds
We got such a great response. We really wanted to do it again.
0:24 / 24 seconds
Grower input was first and foremost a consideration in the design and implementation.
0:29 / 29 seconds
We've worked with industry, we worked with growers, with tech providers to understand what it is that they need. We've got exhibitors from Australia, homegrown AgTech,

external innovation from around the world, to see, look, and feel the technology to understand how it performs in

the real world, and that's very important to get investors on board, but also government support.
0:48 / 48 seconds
We've been really excited to have 19 live field demonstrations, 24 protected cropping exhibitors, and 43 general AgTech exhibitors.
1:04 / 1 minute, 4 seconds
It's extremely valuable to have all this, technology in one place. You can get a bit of tunnel vision stuck on your own farm, day in, day out. It's quite refreshing to have a look at some new ideas.
1:13 / 1 minute, 13 seconds
For us it's also saving time because if we would like to meet all those growers we met, it will have taken us one year of travels.
1:21/ 1 minute, 21 seconds
I think it's a breath of fresh air to see the future take shape.
1:24/ 1 minute, 24 seconds
To have it showcased in a way that gives you confidence in its ability to perform is really important.
1:30/ 1 minute, 30 seconds
I think it's exciting to see the technology, but it's more exciting to see groups of growers, engaging with one another and also the

technology manufacturer having discussions that if we didn't have this event would probably be happening online or may not be happening at all.
1:45/ 1 minute, 45 seconds
Just providing that forum for people to come together, to network, to engage.
1:50/ 1 minute, 50 seconds
You move innovation forward so much faster in two days here than you would months, years over email.
2:00/ 2 minutes
It's a unique role the department can play because, we can bring a lot of players together that wouldn't normally collaborate. Having that international connection, priceless.
2:09/ 2 minutes, 9 seconds
We have to embrace innovation and technology because we have so many pressures. Just looking at any ways we can reduce the amount of chemical we use.
2:16/ 2 minutes, 16 seconds
The EcoRobotics machines, it was cool to see that for the first time.
2:19/ 2 minutes, 19 seconds
It was impressive just how well it can differentiate between the weeds and the plants. This technology not only saves money on input costs, but it also affects labour.
2:29/ 2 minutes, 29 seconds
But most importantly, yield and quality. There's been real excitement about the event.
2:39/ 2 minutes, 39 seconds
Just under 1500 attendees through the gates. Absolutely ecstatic with that.
2:44/ 2 minutes, 44 seconds
They really want to adopt technology to improve their profitability and sustainability. It is a solution to a problem born out of necessity.
2:52 / 2 minutes, 52 seconds
AgTech will help keep farmers farming into the future.
AgTech in action
More than 1,400 attendees—including 384 growers and 135 students—attended the two-day event, with over 80 exhibitors showcasing innovations across automation, robotics, soil and crop management, connectivity, protected cropping, postharvest solutions and supply chain operations.
The program featured:
- 19 live field demonstrations, including:
- autonomous tractors and platforms
- laser and mechanical weeders
- targeted spray technologies
- advanced robotics
- 43 general exhibitors and 24 protected cropping exhibitors, demonstrating technologies under real-world growing conditions
- a comprehensive AusAgritech Speakers’ Program, including grower adoption experiences and expert insights on:
- return on investments (ROI)
- automations
- soil and water intelligence
- data-driven decision-making
- a dedicated student engagement program, supporting the next generation of AgTech innovators
- a well-attended Sundowner networking event, connecting nearly 400 participants across industry, research and government.
Protected cropping launch
A major highlight was the official opening of the Protected Cropping Centre for Mild Winter Climates, supported by the National Farmers’ Federation Horticulture Roadshow.
Protected cropping featured strongly throughout the program, reflecting its growing role in improving resilience, efficiency and sustainability in vegetable production systems.
Strengthening adoption and industry collaboration
The Showcase reinforced Queensland—and Australia more broadly—as leaders in AgTech Innovation. By connecting research, technology innovations and developers with on-farm applications, the event strengthened pathways from innovation to adoptions and supported growers to make informed investment decisions.
By accelerating awareness and adoption of practical technologies, the Showcase supported growers to improving on-farm efficiency, strengthening supply chain resilience and addressing labour and input challenges. It also demonstrated the value of coordinated industry and government collaboration in delivering practical outcomes for Australian agriculture.
Feedback from delegates and exhibitors described the showcase as 'one of the best ag events in the country' and 'of huge value', highlighting the quality of demonstrations and the strong networking environment.
Funding
The event was funded by Hort Innovation, using the vegetable and onion research and development levies, with contributions from the Hort Frontiers Advanced Production Systems fund through the 'AS20007 Driving AgTech adoption across Australia' project, the Australian Government and co-investment from the Queensland Department of Primary Industries.
