Record today so there’s fish for tomorrow
Every cast tells a story. Every catch adds to something bigger. When you record your catch, you help protect the fishing we love, now and for future generations.
You don’t need to be a “serious” fisher to make a difference. Whether you head out a few times a year or every weekend, your catch data helps build a clearer picture of what’s happening across Queensland’s waters.

How recording helps fishing in Queensland
When you record your catch, you turn a day on the water into citizen science in action.
Real data from real fishers.
Your reports help fisheries scientists and managers:
- better understand fish populations
- measure and understand how fishing pressure changes across regions and time
- build stock assessments to indicate stock health
- make decisions that keep our fish stocks sustainable
- support a strong fishing future for Queensland.
It’s one small action with a big impact, because what we do today shapes the future of our fisheries.
Catch. Check. Complete.
Make it part of every trip:
- Catch – Cast your line, set your pots, or dive below the surface and see what you catch!
- Check – Look at your local fishing rules, species information and your past trips in the app.
- Complete – Record your trip details with a tap and help shape the future of fishing in Queensland.
Why we’re asking you to record
Fisheries Queensland needs reliable information to manage fish stocks well.
In the past, statewide phone and logbook surveys have been used to estimate recreational catch and effort. Those surveys now cost more and take more work to run, and they can only provide a snapshot in time.
The Qld Fishing 2.0 app gives you a simple, modern way to self-record and submit catch information directly to Fisheries Queensland.
As more fishers record their trips, scientists get stronger, more up-to-date data across more locations and seasons. This helps them build better stock assessments and helps managers make better-informed decisions, so fishing stays sustainable now and for years to come.
