Together we fish better
Fishing looks different for everyone.
You might fish from the shore after work, head offshore when the weather opens up, or spend family weekends chasing a feed.
Whatever your style, you want the same thing: healthy fisheries and great fishing into the future.
Recording your catch is one of the simplest ways you can help. It’s your way to play a part in protecting what you love.

[Man]: I’ve loved fishing since I was a kid, and that love for fishing is now how my family and I survive.
A lot of the fish we catch are the big GTs (giant trevallys), the big Spanish mackerel, big cobia, which we all like to release, to live another day, for you to come and catch and enjoy for years to come.
Stay on, stay on buddy.
[Woman]: There’s so many different ways to fish and we all love our waterways in different ways. But we all care the same.
Help protect the future of fishing. Catch, check, complete.

How your reports help
When you record your catch in the Qld Fishing 2.0 app, you do more than log a trip.
You give scientists and managers the information they need to:
- monitor fish populations over time
- understand stock health
- see patterns in recreational fishing activity across Queensland.
That information guides better management and helps keep our waterways sustainable, our seasons fair, and our fishing future strong.

[Narrator]: Every cast tells a story, every catch adds to something bigger, ’cause what we do today shapes the future of our fisheries.
Recording your catch isn’t just about bragging rights; it’s how we all play our part in protecting what we love.
Real data from real fishers. That’s citizen science in action.
Every report helps scientists understand fish movements, stock health and changing conditions.
It’s information that keeps our waterways sustainable, our seasons fair, and our fishing future strong.
From weekend anglers to lifelong pros, we’re all connected by the same ocean.
By recording your catch, you’re helping Queensland’s fisheries thrive for generations to come.
One small action, one big impact. Your catch counts.
Record today, so there’s fish for tomorrow. Download the Qld Fishing 2.0 app. Your data makes a difference.

Why better data matters now
More Queenslanders are getting out on the water. As access grows, pressure on fish stocks can grow too.
If we want fisheries managers to act early and manage fairly, they need accurate, up-to-date information, not just occasional snapshots.
Your reports add to a statewide picture that helps show what’s happening now, not what happened months or years ago.
Picture yourself fishing the same spot you love today, years from now, with your children or grandchildren beside you. When you record your catch, you help build the information that supports decisions to look after fish stocks for the long term.

[Man]: This is my backyard. How beautiful is it?
If managed correctly, me and my family can enjoy fishing here for the next 10 years, and many more to come.
With better catch data, we can make better-informed decisions.
Record your catch via the Qld Fishing 2.0 app because your catch counts for tomorrow’s fishers.

Proof it works: Queensland tailor
Your data has already helped show real change in Queensland fisheries.
In the 1990s, most tailor caught were only 1 to 2 years old. That raised concerns about sustainability, because tailor can live up to 13 years. Fisheries Queensland introduced management measures to reduce fishing pressure and protect spawning tailor.
Recreational fishers have continued to share data on their tailor catches with Fisheries Queensland each year. This collaboration and ongoing data now show a healthier age mix in what is being caught, with more older fish appearing in the tailor stock.
This is what strong recreational catch data can do. It helps scientists track trends, confirm sustainability, and avoid unnecessary restrictions.
What’s next
As more recreational fishers record their catches in the app and provide feedback, we can keep improving the experience through app updates and new features.
We can also return more meaningful information back to anglers, so you can see what your data is being used for and the picture it is helping to build.
