Take care when moving things that could carry pests or diseases – this includes plant material, animals, food products, soil and related equipment.

Biosecurity zones and movement restrictions apply throughout the state, and you should be aware of and comply with any relevant requirements.

Moving animals

Queensland's livestock and animal movement requirements are in place to prevent the spread of pests and diseases, and safeguard our food and markets.

Procedures and facilities are in place to:

  • ensure livestock and animal can be identified and movements traced
  • ensure livestock and animal are free of certain pests and diseases
  • prevent chemical residues in stock and products
  • ensure animals are well cared for during transportation.

Movement records

A livestock movement record is a compulsory document that must be created when animals are moved between properties in Queensland to:

  • identify the owner of the animals being moved
  • describe the animals being moved
  • provide details of the movement.

Moving plant material, soil and related equipment

Stopping the spread of pests and diseases is an important part of managing your property. By law, you must comply with biosecurity restrictions when moving plant material or related items such as soil and equipment.

Not complying with the restrictions can have serious consequences. Introducing a pest into an area can impact your property and lifestyle and have major impacts on Queensland’s environment, industries and communities.

Certification

You may need a biosecurity certificate to move plants, plant products and related items:

  • within Queensland, or
  • out of Queensland to another Australian state or territory.

Restrictions

Biosecurity restrictions play a vital role in protecting Queensland from serious pests and diseases.

There are legal requirements when moving plant material and related items:

  • into Queensland
  • from Queensland to other states and territories.
